Fusion, explores the properties and capabilities of glass through a blend of techniques. The primary structure of the piece is a slump-casted form composed of a multitude of blown spheres. It takes on a neutral form that can be interpreted in many ways and is an elegant shape for both the casted element and the neon. The method of slumping glass in a mold is something I had used before, and I love the way it transformed this collection of spheres. The pristine shapes have been distorted to make a cascade of reflections and refractions that warp and flex with the viewers movement. This piece comes to life from the concentric integrated neon units. The violet unit is mounted in a channel inside the bubble structure, while the red neon unit encloses the perimeter of the piece. The colors’ refractive mingling within the overlaid glass fills the gallery with a rich magenta.
